the gut

a ruin in progress

THE GUT

First drafted on a small yellow legal pad on the express train subway commute from Brooklyn to Harlem in 2017, THE GUT is a currently unpublished hybrid poetry manuscript that I wrote in tandem with IN STILL ROOMS. The image of the work above is of a charcoal drawing by visual & installation artist Douglas Rogerson called “nothing is precious.”

THE GUT is not so much a “collection of poems” as one self-contained / extended project. As such, it has been very difficult to excerpt, because I feel so much of it relies on itself—on its own context—to really work. That said, movements of the project have been published via various avenues & performed at venues across the city. Below you will find links to publications of those movements I have been able to excerpt. Perhaps it will become another physical / print document one day, but for now it remains yet another ruin in progress.
